The studio

We started by gutting our own house. It went sideways. We learned.

Halden & Roe is Erik Halden and Sam Roe — a carpenter and a designer who met framing houses in East Van and got tired of watching good renovations ruined by bad process. Erik learned the trade from a heritage restoration crew in New Westminster; Sam came up through interior architecture. We build the way we'd want our own home built.

We run one project per crew at a time. That means daily clean-up, a shared schedule you can actually see, and one number to call. We don't waterproof to the minimum, we don't bury change orders, and we won't start demo until the whole scope is drawn and priced.

The project that defines us: a 1912 character home in Kitsilano with a failing foundation and a client who needed it livable before a new baby arrived. We sequenced the underpinning around an immovable date, worked weekends we'd quoted for, and handed back the keys nine days early.

Services

What we build, what it gives you, and what it starts at.

01

Whole-Home Renovation

From $250k · fixed scope

A top-to-bottom rebuild that keeps the character worth keeping and fixes everything behind the walls — so you get a home that feels new and lasts like one built to stay.

How long does a whole-home reno take? +

Most run five to eight months on site, after a six-to-ten week design and permit phase. We give you a dated schedule before demo and update it weekly.

02

Additions & Extensions

From $180k · scope-based

More room without moving — a second storey, a rear extension, a laneway home. Engineered to tie into the existing structure cleanly, so the new part never reads as bolted on.

Do I need a permit for an addition? +

Yes — anything that changes the footprint or adds floor area needs a building permit, and often a development permit. We manage the full submission and the city back-and-forth.

03

Kitchens & Baths

From $65k · per room

The two rooms that return the most — done with proper waterproofing, real cabinetry, and trades who show up. A kitchen that adds value and makes you want to cook every night.

Can we stay in the house during the work? +

For a single kitchen or bath, usually yes — we dust-wall the zone and keep a path clear. For whole-home work we'll help you plan the move-out around the schedule.

Voices

"Our whole-home reno came in on budget and they handed back the keys nine days early — before the baby arrived. The crew left the site cleaner than they found it, every day."

Alana & Chris M. — Kitsilano, Vancouver

"We'd been burned by a builder before. Halden & Roe drew and priced the whole scope before demo, and the number on day one was the number at the end. No surprises."

Reza T. — North Vancouver

"They added a second storey while we lived on the main floor with two kids. I don't know how, but it worked — and the addition looks like it was always there."

The Okonkwo Family — East Vancouver
