the atelier
Maison Voss does not build bathrooms. We compose them — slowly, intentionally, the way a sonata is written, with movements of stone and water and light. Each commission begins with a private studio visit and ends, eighteen months hence, with a single room of unrepeatable quietude.
We accept no more than nine projects in a calendar year. The materials we love — onyx from Pakistan, Calacatta Viola from Tuscany, brass aged in our own foundry — do not arrive on schedule, and we will not rush them.
What we offer is not interior decoration. It is the slow, devotional craft of architecture in miniature — a private cathedral, designed for one resident and the long evenings of a single life.
Four practices,
composed in concert.
A bathroom is the meeting of disciplines that rarely speak to one another — joinery, stoneworks, metallurgy, lighting. We hold all four under one roof, in one hand.
Hand-fitted oak, walnut, and ebonised maple. Joined without screws, finished by hand-rubbing oils across thirty days.
Slabs are selected in person, in the Italian quarry. Bookmatched veining, mitred returns, hand-honed edges, no exceptions.
Cast and patinated in our Hertfordshire foundry. Each fitting is signed and dated; each will outlive the room it is set within.
A Voss bathroom holds three lighting scenes — dawn, evening, and the third light of late autumn. Specified to the foot-candle.

Five movements,
across eighteen months.
Time is the principal material. The room cannot be hurried; nor would you wish it to be.
An afternoon at the Marylebone studio. We open the sample drawers, show recent commissions, and listen — closely — to the way you describe a morning. No specifications are made yet.
Hand drawings in graphite. Three private presentations. We compose the room as one would compose music: in passages, with rests, around a single chord — usually the stone.
If you wish, you join us. We travel to Carrara, to Levanto, to the foundry in Hertfordshire. The slab is chosen by hand. The brass is poured in your presence. Few clients decline.
Our four foremen — joinery, stone, metal, light — install in turn. The residence is not occupied. A weekly photographic letter is delivered to you, by hand if you are in London.
A short ceremony. We light a single candle, fill the bath, and leave. A leather-bound dossier is left on the vanity — every drawing, every signed brass fitting, every quarry receipt. Yours, in perpetuity.
